From Our President

Ronald A. Fragen, M.D.

It's been a long hot August and the Temple is moving forward almost as fast as Michael Phelps swims!

Hopefully, by the time this reaches you, we will have new bylaws in place which conform to present law.

A reorganization of the Temple administration, under the able leadership of Trudi Licht, is in progress. The Board of Directors and Executive Committee are asking for a revision of our business practices. We are reviewing bills, contracts, and how we authorize expenditures. Trudi will have a great deal on her plate, and we ask for your help and support while she builds her team.

I had a wonderful experience this past weekend. I attended a Bat Mitzvah at Congregation Ner Tamid in Poway. I realized how different our largely adult congregation is compared to the usual congregation of young families. We forget our high degree of volunteerism and participation when it involved our children. As we age, we tend to sit back and be spectators and Monday morning critics rather than enthusiastic participants. We must recognize this change and overcome it if we are to succeed as a largely adult congregation. Another option is to recruit more younger families.

As we anticipate the New Year and become comfortable with our many changes, let us give thanks to those who work for our success and join them in a happy celebration.

My wife Carol joins me in wishing you a Happy New Year. We look forward to greeting you at services.

In the altered words of John F. Kennedy, "Ask not what the Temple has done for me, but what can I do for Temple Isaiah."

Sincerely,

Ronald A. Fragen, MD

P.S. In keeping with my pledge to write a $100 check for each new full dues paying member, I’m delighted to say I’m writing the Temple a another check ... and we are thrilled to welcome our newest members:
Seymour & Joanne Hirschfield
Dennis & Ruth Sokol
